Weekend Wind-Down #166

MINI 0019

Missy's parents drove down from Pittsburgh last week to hang out with us and help us with some projects. Along with helping us with some issues with our house (bringing our boiler up to code, cutting up a huge branch that fell in our backyard, etc.), they also helped us build a COUNTER for our new business venture, MINI GALLERY. Wanting to use up the left over PEGBOARD we had from Mini Gallery, I drew up a quick sketch of an idea for the counter. Missy's dad, John, took one look at the sketch and said, "Yeah, I can make that"...

The counter was built on our back porch, with the help of a PORTABLE TABLE SAW they brought all the way down from Pennsylvania. As soon as the counter was done, we packed it into the back of Missy's Yaris (THE BEAST) and hauled it out to the gallery...PERFECT!

!!! COMING SOON !!! MINI GALLERY - Athens' smallest art gallery slash handmade boutique - located in the back of the retail space that is shared by LOW YO YO STUFF RECORDS and the GET RAD skate shop, right in the spiritual heart of downtown Athens. No, we are NOT quitting our day jobs. We are just starting another side-hustle, another project. In the words of our very own formalized business plan, "MINI GALLERY is the logical 'next step' in our continuing story - it is an extension of the many things that we already do...We propose to offer an antidote to the stale, mass-produced, big-box shopping paradigm by offering a lovingly curated mix of art and hand-crafted goodness, with an emphasis on items that are locally made, small batch, one-of-a-kind, and limited edition." Our tiny box will literally be the exact opposite of a big box store!

We're hoping to be up and running in about a month's time. There's still a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that needs to be done. Meanwhile, please check back here on the blog for progress reports. And/or you can check out the Mini Gallery Flickr Set HERE for more photos and images of our continuing development...
